Who is the creator of the Global Citizens English Project?

Hello!

I am Deborah, an official ambassador for the United Nations #TeachSDGs movementEFL/CLIL teacher and teacher trainer, qualified with an MEd in Teacher Development for Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), BA (Hons) in Development Studies, and Trinity Cert. TESOL.

My mission:

1) as an EFL/CLIL teacher: to educate young learners for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship, using the English language as a tool to understand the world we live in. Through participation in transformative learning experiences with activities that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and communication, I help students develop the knowledge, skills, language, values, and attitudes that enable them to make informed decisions and take action to make the world a better place for people, animals, and the environment.

2) as a teacher trainer: to empower EFL/CLIL teachers worldwide with TOOLS, STRATEGIES, AND RESOURCES to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their teaching by sharing with them the knowledge and experiences I have acquired throughout my Teach SDGs journey to-date.

I have given CLIL workshops for pre-service and in-service teachers as a member of the MEd CLIL teaching team at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and created and implemented training courses for the Catalan Department of Education to inspire and empower EFL/CLIL teachers to integrate the SDGs into their curriculum. In 2025 I was honoured to speak at their webinar series Nous Horitzons en l’Ensenyament i l’Aprenentatge de les Llengües and was also invited to speak at the Association for English Teachers of Catalonia (APAC) convention and TESOL-Spain conference.

During my 23 years of dedication to the field of ELT, I have also worked as an oral examiner for Cambridge University ESOL exams at YLE, KET, PET, and FCE levels and as a teacher trainer at Cambridge exam preparation centers. I was a team leader for after-school programs for International House, an English teacher at the Official Language School (EOI) and the School of Art and Design (edRa), and a regional teacher supervisor for PIPE (Pla Integral de Plurilingüisme Educatiu) in La Rioja. I am also an accredited ‘Woodland Activity Leader’ and a pioneer in ‘NatCLIL’. You can find more information about NatCLIL in my article published by the United Kingdom’s National Association for Environmental Education

My travels around the world and everything they taught me are the roots of my passion for global education and intercultural exchange. I feel privileged to be working alongside leading global educators as a facilitator and regular participant in innovative global education projects and always encourage my students to collaborate on taking action, whether in their local community or at a global level with other young learners around the world.

For the academic year 2025/26, in support of SDG4.7, I am offering an innovative series of online workshops for EFL/CLIL teachers worldwide. You can see more details here!
